AP's ENPS Names Whitacre to Direct Sales Efforts
Broadcast Technology Division Gets New Sales Chief
WASHINGTON – The Associated Press has named Phillip Whitacre as its new Director of Sales and Marketing for its Broadcast Technology division.
Based in Washington, Whitacre leads the division's global sales efforts and the strategic business planning for AP's broadcast technology products, including the award winning Electronic Newsroom System, ENPS. He will play a vital role in serving AP’s key clients using their news content management systems, including Time Warner Cable, Hearst Argyle, Tribune and the BBC. Whitacre also will manage a sales team located around the world.Since 1999, Whitacre had been Director of Sales for the United States and Canada for Wegener Communications in suburban Atlanta, where he managed a sales force targeting digital video and IP datacasting solutions to television and radio broadcast networks, cable networks, cable system operators, satellite service providers and enterprise networks.
Prior to Wegener, Whitacre was a Regional Sales Manager for video network sales with Scientific Atlanta, playing a key role in establishing the PowerVu MPEG-2/DVB video compression brand. He also was a Senior Account Manager for Asia-Pacific data and telephony networks sales and established the company’s sales office in Beijing, China. His previous experience includes sales of enterprise software and LAN/WAN systems and engineering roles with Hewlett-Packard and Data General.
Whitacre holds a Master's degree in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.
