AP NAMES NEWS TECHNOLOGY VETERAN TO LEAD ONLINE VIDEO

ENPS Exec, Former News Director, Bill Burke Adds New Responsibilities

WASHINGTON, D.C.,– The Associated Press today named Bill Burke to the position of Director for AP’s Online Video Operations. The post includes responsibility for technical development and operations for AP’s subscription video and for the Online Video Network (OVN).

Burke will also retain his current responsibility for development management of AP’s newsroom editorial system as Deputy Director of ENPS.

"Bill’s vast knowledge of the broadcast industry and his technology background will be key assets in leading AP’s online video initiative” said Jon Petrovich, AP’s vice president for domestic broadcast. “We are pleased to add his leadership and management skills to our online video team.”

Based in Washington, D.C., Burke will oversee the strategic direction for online video products, while working closely with AP’s technology partners. He will manage a team of product specialists who support the subscription and OVN services and will work closely with AP’s editorial team to expand content offerings for both products. AP produces more than 60 video clips per day covering national and international news topics, entertainment, politics, sports and off-beat news. These are available in a variety of packages and formats for license by portals, Web sites, mobile carriers and other new media outlets. The Online Video Network, a turnkey solution for online video, serves more than 1,900 newspaper, television and radio sites across the U.S.

For the past 10 years, Burke has worked as a Product Manager for Broadcast Technology, assisting in setting the ENPS development agenda and in managing enterprise ENPS installations such as ESPN and Tribune Broadcasting.

Before joining AP, he was a news director, manager, and producer at a number of television stations, primarily in south Florida.  At WPBF-TV in West Palm Beach, Burke and his staff won Murrow and AP awards for best newscast in 1996. He received an Emmy for spot news coverage while at WIS-TV and served as executive producer on the WTVJ-TV team that won DuPont, Murrow and Peabody awards for coverage of Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Burke earned undergraduate and masters degrees in English from the University of Virginia.
