AP names Daisy Veerasingham vice president of sales for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia

NEW YORK -- The Associated Press has appointed Daisy Veerasingham vice president of sales for Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia as part of the formation of AP's newly consolidated Sales & Marketing Department.

Veerasingham, based in London, takes on responsibility for revenue from EMEA and Asia/Pacific broadcasters, newspapers, news agencies, photo agencies, new media and buyers of video archive material.

"Daisy's experience and talent will help us achieve our objective of streamlining decision-making for AP's revenue-generating units on critical projects and customers," said Chief Revenue Officer Tom Brettingen, to whom Veerasingham reports.

She joined AP in 2004 in London and, as sales director, has been responsible for all revenue generated by APTN video news feed services. Before joining the AP, she was group sales director for LexisNexis Butterworth Tolley and managing director of LexisNexis Europe. She also worked at the Financial Times, where her last position was sales and marketing director for FT Information. She holds a degree in business law from Warwick University in London and joined the Financial Times as a graduate trainee.

AP announced the establishment of its unified sales and marketing department in March. This week, Brettingen also outlined in more detail the roles of three other top executives in the restructured department -- Sue Cross, Senior Vice President, Americas Media Markets and Global New Media; Jane Seagrave, Senior Vice President of Global Product Development; and Joy Jones, Vice President of Marketing Operations.

Cross is responsible for revenue from U.S. and Latin American print, broadcast and new media markets plus two smaller sales units.  She also directs global policy and strategy for new media markets.

Seagrave's duties include developing and rolling out new products in all markets, with emphasis on new media. She will also transition the existing product portfolio to meet changing customer demands and manage the development process.

Jones will provide sales and marketing analytics, define product distribution strategy and establish comprehensive customer service capabilities.

Brettingen said the restructuring is designed to help AP better meet the converging needs of media customers worldwide as well as enhance the company's product development and marketing capabilities.
