AP elections coverage and Mobile News Network swing into U.S. Cellular® markets

More than six million customers in 26 states can access two new AP mobile sites featuring the latest developments in politics and the economy

NEW YORK -- The Associated Press and U.S. Cellular (NYSE: USM) launched two mobile Web sites tailored for U.S. Cellular customers across the country. The content distribution deal offers a gateway to both AP’s popular Mobile News Network, which provides top international, national and local news, and AP Elections ’08 coverage. The AP Elections ’08 and Mobile News Network WAP sites are accessible U.S. Cellular’s easyedgeSM To Go, nWeb browser, and the newly launched Mobile Browser.

"If you’re looking for news and information on your wireless phone, it should be quick and easy to find," said Alan Ferber, vice president of sales operations and chief marketing officer for U.S. Cellular. "Right now, we’re rolling out our high-speed Mobile Broadband service in various markets so our customers can get election updates even faster."

The AP Elections ‘08 site is only available to U.S. Cellular customers. It is prominently featured at the top of the U.S. Cellular browsers’ “News and Weather” home page, ensuring that the latest breaking political developments are easily accessible to U.S. Cellular customers anytime, anywhere.

"AP is committed to producing quality news in a rich mobile experience on Election Day and beyond," said Jeffrey Litvack, general manager for mobile and emerging products for AP. "AP is providing U.S. Cellular customers with two brand-new options to get relevant news wherever they are and whenever they need it. The Elections site will include coverage in U.S. Cellular markets in swing states such as Missouri and North Carolina. Once the race is over, fans can continue to satisfy their on-the-go news consumption with news from AP and its local member news providers through the Mobile News Network."

The AP has counted votes and declared winners every four years since Zachary Taylor was elected president in 1848. This year, AP plans to provide comprehensive election night news, highlighting the efforts of AP reporters, editors, videographers, technical support personnel and others covering the presidential, congressional and state elections for the growing number of mobile users.

The Mobile News Network, www.apnews.com, is the first product released by AP's Digital Cooperative, an initiative aimed at finding new digital outlets for news and information produced by AP members. The network covers the entire 100 top designated market areas and boasts a growing number of content contributors -- more than 1,000 news organizations signed up to provide local news stories. For the month of September, the Mobile News Network received more than 26 million page views and more than 1.5 million local stories were read.

The Mobile News Network site can be accessed on all mobile devices by visiting www.apnews.com.
